meal delivery driver

Our greatest ongoing need is for Meal Delivery Drivers! 66% of our meal deliveries are carried out by our amazing volunteers. Join us in delivering healthy nutritious meals to seniors in your community!

Shifts vary by service area. Drivers deliver 15-20 meals to clients and take between 2 – 2.5 hours to complete.  Volunteer Drivers use their own vehicles to pick up meals from one of four locations:

  • San Leandro Kitchen: 2235 Polvorosa Avenue #260 San Leandro, CA 94577; Open Pick-up time: 9 am – 12 pm

  • Oakland Hub: 3540 Fruitvale Ave, Oakland, CA 94602 (behind Flavor Brigade); Pick-up at 10 am, latest delivery 12:30 pm

  • Castro Valley Hub: 22224 Redwood Rd Castro Valley, CA 94546 (behind Trader Joe’s); Pick-up at 10 am, latest delivery 12:30  pm

Kitchen volunteering

Are you interested in joining our wonderful kitchen staff to take part in producing our daily 1600+ meals? You’ll work on the tray-line assembling nutritious meals for our homebound seniors. This volunteer opportunity begins at 8:45am for newcomers, and after the first day orientation, a kitchen volunteer shift is from 9-11:30am at our San Leandro office (2235 Polvorosa Ave, Suite 280).

kitchen volunteering for groups

Interested in a one-time volunteer opportunity for your club, church or corporate group? Our kitchen produces 1600+ meals daily. Come be a part of the action and help us prep and package meals in our commercial kitchen in San Leandro. This is a great team building opportunity and many groups come back again; some, several times per year!

Tasks include scooping food on the tray line, placing labels on sealed meals, stacking and racking finished meals to be wheeled into the refrigerator, helping assemble side components like salads, fruit, and rolls. Current hours of operations are Monday through Friday from 9-11:30am.

mercy brown bag assembly

Help to assemble 120+ bags of non-perishable grocery items to be delivered to our most vulnerable seniors. Grocery bags need to be doubled, labelled and filled. This opportunity occurs twice monthly on the first and third Mondays, 9:30-11:30am.

administrative assistance

Got admin skills? Great! Help prepare client statements. Volunteers meet at 10am in Suite 280 on the last business day of each month. This task usually takes 2-2.5 hours to complete, depending on the number of volunteers working. We occasionally need help with light filing or other admin work too.

events

Looking for a one-off volunteer opportunity? When we are hosting events, we often need help in the lead up to the event and at the event itself. A/V masters, decorators, photographers and cleanup crews are always welcome!
