Fast Company Recognizes Meals on Wheels as a 2024 Brand That Matters
We are thrilled and deeply honored that Meals on Wheels was recognized by Fast Company magazine as one of the 2024 Brands That Matter. This prestigious list, which began in 2020, celebrates organizations that have not only become essential to their customers’ lives but also have made a meaningful impact on the broader culture.
Fast Company commented that this year’s honorees stood out for work that is “impactful, cleverly conceived and executed, and ultimately consistent with their brand ethos and popular perception.” Meals on Wheels was among 66 distinguished honorees.
What began in 1966 as Service Opportunity for Seniors (SOS)— originally operating as a church program in Hayward—has blossomed into a vital force for good. In 2013, we expanded to San Leandro and other East Bay cities, adopting the Meals on Wheels model and name. Today, we are the largest senior services provider in Alameda County, delivering not just meals but also connection, care and dignity to countless older adults.
This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our staff, volunteers and supporters who work tirelessly to uplift our community’s most vulnerable. We are proud of how far we’ve come, yet remain humbled by the trust placed in us and the work still ahead. Together, we’ll continue to nourish bodies, hearts and spirits —one meal, one smile, one connection at a time. We are proud to be part of this amazing network.
